That wasn't Emacs. That was GosMacs (or gmacs or Gosling Emacs).
And I am amazed they didn't mention NeWS.
You might also want to see this interview. He also talks a litlle about JavaFX.

BTW, I wrote Java History (for the book) in a "novel format". Cannot publish on my blog because of (stupid) copyright issues. Would love to have your views on it nonetheless.
